Groundhog Day 2012: Punxsutawney Phil sees shadow, 6 more weeks of winter? Let's hope not, unless of course it stays warm  
It’s that time of year when I am usually totally completely and absolutely bored with a winter filled with snow, sleet, freezing rain with all the gray days. It is a year that has been filled with the most unusual weather.  Now we are already into February and February 1st found us with unusually high temperatures here in Orange County NY. Living in Newburgh for the last twenty some odd years I have been through some really nasty winters. This however has not been one of them. It makes me happy.
Today is Groundhog Day.  You might call me odd, but it has been one of my favorite holidays since my children were small. Many years ago we started to celebrate this day more than most families I guess.  I always found it more fun to just celebrate something that had more of a connection for us as a unit rather than a commercial aspect to a season. Almost like a secret of sorts. It started when my mother was ill.
