Oriental to celebrate Spirit of Christmas on Friday and Saturday
                                               Christmas in Oriental

Friday's activities begin with a noon ribbon cutting for the town's new 120-foot public pier at Lou Mac Park. Activity continues at the park with a 5:15 p.m. unveiling of the Oriental History Museum's new historical marker, part of the museum's Historical House Plaque Project. The annual boat parade is at 5:30 p.m., with the best viewing along the waterfront on South Avenue. Look to the east to see the boats exit from Whitaker Pointe Marina. An hour later comes the lighting of the Spirit of Christmas star at the town dock on Hodges Street, with Christmas carols and hot beverages, courtesy of Pamlico Presbyterian Church. The first night wraps up with live entertainment including the trio "Real Trouble," at 7:30 p.m. in midtown on Broad Street. Businesses will be open all day Saturday, with special times for free refreshments.
