Tampa Bay Waterfront: Different types of Waterfront in Tampa
Waterfront property in Tampa is not nearly as homogeneous as one might first believe. Tampa waterfront property can be found in a variety of areas and types. The areas include on Davis Islands, Beach Park, Sunset Park, Culbreath Isles, Dana Shores, Bel mar Shores, Sweet Water, and others. When you are looking for waterfront, you must ask yourself what you are going to use it for. Are you looking for a nice view? Did you want to keep a boat? What size boat. In the most basic breakdown, there are three kinds of waterfront in Tampa. 
Open bay: This is the most expensive of Tampa waterfront.  A decent sized open water lot price coming in at $1,600,000 to a large lot in a great area of South Tampa coming in at around 2,300,000 (Nov 2007). This water will be "deep", allowing boats with drafts of 4-5'. Of course, this Tampa water offers beautiful views and great boating opportunities, but does have some negative aspects. The biggest drawback is that is unprotected. This means that when larger storms come boats must be moved or drawn up on a lift.
