The Whitney Farms golf course and community of homes in Monroe CT was originally established as a dairy and horse breeding farm.   It was purchased in the mid 1970’s and redesigned to feature an 18-hole championship golf course surrounded by over 250 predominantly colonial homes.
 
I can remember driving up to what was just dirt and part of the original stone barn back in 1978.  Only Hillside Lane and Spinning Wheel Road were cut through. 
 

 
 
 
At that time I was in search of a home site and the developer offered land purchases to the general public with some building restrictions on size and style. I ended up purchasing a .75 acre lot and eventually built a 3 bedroom colonial. Only 3 bedrooms homes were allowed due to town septic restrictions.  Most homes in the area are colonial in style.

 
 
 
Eventually Lazy Brook was cut through as well as Settlers Farm and the streets surrounded the entire Whitney Farms golf course which officially opened in 1982.  Some homes are right on the fairways; others across the street and some ... more
