College Park is a neighborhood of ranches in Red Hook NY. The majority of these ranches were constructed back in the late 1950’s as a bedroom community for some of the workers at IBM Kingston. This was made possible because of the construction of the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge in the 1950’s which connects Dutchess and Ulster Counties across the Hudson River.Because of the high water table these College Park ranches were constructed on slab foundations. The ranches were cookie cutter consisting of 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a living room with cathedral ceilings, eat in kitchen, and a laundry room. In later years some homeowners have added garages or additional rooms.But why is this neighborhood called College Park? Take a look at the names of the streets, all are well known names of colleges.
