Addison's WaterTower Theatre is offering you an opportunity to see the next production, The Mystery of Irma Vep on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 7:30 p.m for FREE. This comedy, by playwright Charles Ludlum, was the most produced play in the United States in 1991; and in 2003, it became the longest-running play ever produced in Brazil. Two actors portray eight characters, so this will be a quick-change marathon behind the scenes for costume changes. The play is a send-up of Victorian melodramas, farce and cinema, and is filled with literary references, particularly to William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, and the Brontë sisters; and classic films like Wuthering Heights, Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca, and The Mummy's Curse.
Directed by Terry Martin, The Mystery of Irma Vep is a spoof of the classic melodrama. A host of gothic characters come to life onstage – from sympathetic werewolves to Egyptian mummy princesses.
