Precious moments, precious memories
I accumulated a number of voicemails this week while my mother-in-law was in her last days and as we planned and traveled out of state for the funeral. One of those voicemails was from her. "It's just me. I'll call you later." What an ordinary thing to say, and what an extraordinary thing to promise! She did call me one more time--to say that she was phoning 911.
I saved that voicemail. Now I am going to try and figure out how to get it from voicemail to my computer.
We missed Thanksgiving with my own Mom during the funeral and aftermath, so we traveled to her nursing home today to spend a few hours. Mom is deep into dementia, and she forgets many things, but she always knows us. She hugged me for a long time, telling me how much she loves me. I don't think she remembered that I have had heart surgery since I last saw her, but she definitely knew that she had been worried. We haven't told her about some of the recent funerals, and we did not mention my mother-in-law's passing, though Mom asked about her during our last visit.
