Historic Homes On Vamo Drive, A Vintage Gem In South Sarasota, FL!

Historic Homes On Vamo Drive, A Vintage Gem In South Sarasota, FL!  Back in 1923 two families purchased property from the estate of the late Bertha Palmer (a wealthy socialite from Chicago) on Little Sarasota Bay.  The Gibsons and the Wrens named the area Vamo, a name derived from their home states, Virginia and Missouri.
While the area was renamed Vamo, one of the streets was named Mova Street, perhaps in a gesture of fairness for the two families and their respective home states.  About twenty families made the area their home.  Vamo was a commerical fishing community at the time and a former fish camp is now a public park on Little Sarasota Bay.
In 1924 the owners began building 13 homes along Vamo Drive on 75' X 100' lots.  They were all built in the Spanish-Mediterranean style popular at the time.  Over the years many of the homes have had additions and/or swimming pools added, yet each retains it's original historic character.  The entire area is shaded by towering oaks and lush vegetation.
Quiet, peaceful Vamo is located just off of busy US41 and surrounded by newer, more expensive developments.   A major shopping mall, restaurants, a Cosco, movie theaters, ... more
