The Humane Society Calumet Area has a “no kill” philosophy.  The shelter originated in 1941 when Miss Evelyn Sweitzer founded the group and opened the Hammond Humane Society.  The growth they experience prompted them to expand to the present day location in August of 2001.  The shelter is located at 421 45th Ave., Munster, IN 46321, on the corner of Calumet Ave. and 45th Ave.  
Donations and adoptions are an important part of keeping the Humane Society Calumet Area open to serve the area.  Volunteers and fundraisers play a big part of that.  Don’t forget your furry friends during the holidays!
