Nik Wallenda's Exciting Sarasota Skywalk!  Sarasota's own Nik Wallenda walked 600 feet across a highwire 180 feet up from Sarasota's Bayfront to the top of Marina Tower, a highrise condominium, today for a local crowd of thousands of awestruck admirers and a TV audience in the millions.
This was Nik Wallenda's first hometown wirewalk since 2010.  Mr. Wallenda made the walk without a tether with nothing to break his fall! He began his walk at approximately 11:00 a.m. with a 45-pound balancing pole across a 5/8-inch thick steel cable.  The walk began in the parking lot of Marina Jack, just east of the Unconditional Surrender stature and ended on the roof patio of Marina Tower.
"It's always an honor to walk in my hometown and it's great to know Sarasota's behind me," says Wallenda.  "I just hope a lot of people will turn out on Tuesday because to see it live is a totally different experience than watching on TV."
 Nothing to worry about there.  Between 10,000 to 12,000 of Sarasotans and visitors gathered to watch Nik Wallenda with balmy 80 degree weather and bright sunny blue skies.  There was a hushed silence of awe and wonder as Nik Wallenda made his way across the highwire in ... more
