1672 Square Foot Home Wins National Design Award
1672 Square Foot Home Wins National Design Award
I am amazed that this year's winner of the 2012 Gold Award for Best Architectural Design for a Single Family Detached Home Under 2,500 Square Feet was The Siena at Laguna Altura in Irvine, California built by Irvine Pacific.
I am not surprised by the builder; Irvine Pacific is terrific, nor the house- it is gorgeous.  I am just amazed that a home close to 900 square feet below the maximum requirement had enough to offer to win!
As a former builder and home designer, I never would have thought such an entry would have a chance.  So what doesn't this house have that a typical 2500 square foot home has?:
Living Room, Fourth Bedroom Eat-in Kitchen Master Sitting Area No Separate Shower in Master Bedroom What does this tell us about the future of housing?
Is less more? Do most families eat most meal out? Are luxurious master bedrooms wasteful?  Are living rooms antiquated?  Are people tired of cleaning more than they need to in bathrooms? What do you think?
