The Meatpacking District in New York City has established itself as one of downtown Manhattan's most exciting destinations. What was the center of the meatpacking industry in New York City, home to over 250 slaughterhouses in it's heyday in the early 1900s. The neighborhood went through a slow decline and eventual urban renewal to its present day status as one of Manhattan's most favored 24 hour neighborhoods.
The Meatpacking District runs from Horatio Street as it's southern boundary all the way up Chelsea Market on 16th Street and from the Hudson River on the West to Hudson Street and Ninth Avenue as its Eastern border.  
 
 

One of the anchor attractions in the Meatpacking District undoubtedly has to be the HighLine Park.  What was an elevated train track that was used to transport the manufacturing goods of the district to other locations became an abandoned and overgrown eyesore, was meticulously restored and has become on the star attractions in all of downtown Manhattan.  Now stretching from Gansevoort Street all the way up to 30s in West Chelsea along 10th Avenue.  The High Line Park overlooks the Hudson River ... more
