The City of Shoreline, Washington finds jobs for kids---mowing lawns!

What do you do when you have a bunch of kids with nothing to do?
Well you can have them cut the grass around all the storm water retention ponds located all around the city.
These ponds are located inside fenced areas that under normal conditions utilize the fences to keep the kids out.  But it now seems, the city is using the fences to keep the kids in---and off the street.  These fenced in areas tend to get overgrown with grass and brambles and become difficult to maintain.
Whoever came up with the idea to reverse the purpose of the fence was a genius!
Of course if you have kids inside these fenced-in areas, it is also a good idea to have some adult supervision.  So why not make it a family experience?
At this retention pond at the corner of NE 170th ST and 15 Ave NE, near my house, the whole family seemed to be content working for their room and board.

Perhaps they know that when the grass is gone here---there are greener pastures to come!
