Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum at Auburn University, Alabama
Ever wonder where how the names were decided on all the buildings at Auburn Univerity, Alabama?  To begin with, Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum begins its 34th year of service to the Univeristy.  It was originally called Memorial Coliseum, in memory of the Auburn veterans who died, renamed in 1987 for Joel H. Eaves (1914-), the school's all-time winningest coach. Six years later, Jeff Beard was added to honor the former athletic director (1951-72).
"The capacity of the six-million dollar multi-purpose building was reduced at the beginning of the 1994-95 season to 10,108 from its original 12,500-seat capacity since 1969. It was then increased to 10,500 in 1998-99. The first phase of a $10-million renovation project began in 1997 with new baseline and sideline seating, a new playing floor, a new scoreboard and the construction of coaches' offices in the upper north end of the Coliseum. The two-millionth fan for a men's basketball game passed through the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum doors against Kentucky on Jan. 30, 1994.
