Local Landmarks.
They seem to have been there forever. Often we pass them every day without so much as a second look.
But every area has its local landmarks. The place that not only serves to identify a general place or location, but that also adds a little special something that makes a community unique or special.
I especially like old courthouses, railroad depots and old mills. I stop and photograph them whenever I am traveling.
And when I revisit these place again, I “compare notes” with photographs from previous years.
Sometimes the landmarks are well maintained and preserved. But all too often they are edging closer and closer to oblivion.
The photo of Starrs Mill is from 1985. I am happy to say that the location is now a FayetteCountyPark and the mill will continue to be maintained.
 
It’s a wonderful local landmark that adds a lot to our community!
