Spanish Moss Trail in Beaufort SC- Work Begins on Second Leg

The Spanish Moss Trail in Beaufort SC is a project to turn the old Magnolia rail road line into a walking, biking, and jogging trail through the heart of this coastal town. The trail is a 12 foot wide concrete path replacing the old railroad tracks. The trail, when completed, will run from Port Royal SC, through the city of Beaufort to the Whale Branch river and possibly beyond.
Work on the first phase ended last year with the completion of the first mile. This first mile section runs from Depot Road to Allison Road in the Beaufort city limits. Included in this section is the old train trestle crossing the Battery Creek River. Phase two will be build in the town of Port Royal, run 2.27 miles, and complete the leg from Allison Road to Ribaut Road. This will be ideal way to connect the people of Port Royal and Beaufort.
Also included in this phase is a small park at the head of the trail by Ribaut Road.
