Are You Ready To DIY?
As a first time home buyer, two things are now probably true for you.  One, you don't have a lot of money to toss around.  And two, things are going to break and need to be fixed in your new home.  And that is OK.  I'm going to share some tools and supplies you should have on hand for those do-it-yourself moments when you want to save a few bucks.  Take your time, buy piece by piece and don't be afraid to ask for items for holiday gift giving.
This quickest least expensive way to start out is with a kit.  I think this one was $20-$30 at the local hardware store here in my neighborhood of Cheektowaga, NY.  Pardon the missing hammer... it likes to live in the last place it was used in my house.  It'll have all your basics: hammer, tape measure, wrench, pliers, hex keys (if you don't have a dozen lying around already from other boxed projects) and screwdrivers.  Ours even came with a small level, which is great for hanging small items and projects, and clamps.  I'd invest in a stud finder if you plan on hanging pictures right away.
Some other odds and ends ... more
