We have seen the market improve over the last few years.  At the end of last year we had only 28,311 properties that were upside down.  To put that into perspective Orange County had over 54,000 fewer homes that were in trouble at the end of the year.  Or if you prefer only 1 in 20 homes were upside down.
Some might state, why do I care?  You should because it effect all of us and the market in total.  A stronger market gives us all a confidence that owning a home is worth while and a place to gain wealth.  It means that a homeowner can sell there home and walk away with some money to retire on or move up/down.  It give the homeowner more of a choice in what we can and want to do.
