MoCo Has Highest Waste Diversion Rate in State



When it comes to recycling efforts in the state of Maryland, MoCo is number one for the second year in a row. County Executive, Ike Leggett announced our county ranking in a recent press release of MoCo County news. With a rate of just under 60 percent for 2012, MoCo has led all other counties in its efforts of waste diversion according to the Maryland Department of the Environment. 
 The waste reduction rate is significantly higher than the 15- 20 percent minimum set by the Maryland Recycling Act. County Executive Leggett has noted that this great achievement for the second year in a row reflects how the county has embraced his goal of reaching a 70 percent rate of waste reduction by 2020. Reaching close to 60 percent by 2014 puts the optimum goal of 70 percent well within reach. The results also reflect how county residents have taken the environment and protecting our county to heart. Without the support of our businesses, organizations and residents, this accomplishment would not be possible.
