Easter at Winterthur Gardens

Easter 2014 at Winterthur Museum and Gardens looked quite different from a few years back. I checked my picture files, and 4 years ago the azaleas and rhododendrum were in full bloom on April 4. The one thing I see in common is that the white trilliums were in full bloom at the beginnings of the month, as they are now. And the deep purple ones seem to be waiting for better weather. It was around 50 degrees this morning, with a wind about 20 mph, so you can see the problem!  The bluebells were in their glory, after waiting several weeks to appear. But I understand it will get to 70 degrees later this week, so some of the shy ones will be nudged into bloom, probably about a month late for the azaleas. I noticed in my garden that the grape hyacinths, which usually are the first bulbs to bloom, were beaten out by the daffodils this year. The spirea were doing well (bottom right), but the flowering quince in the background, which usually set off the white of the spirea, are just budding (top left).
