Catonsville plans to get new elementary schools by 2016!
Catonsville will have new elementary schools by 2016 if all goes as planned!
Our area has seen a big influx of families over the years - the result has been that the Southwestern District elementary schools are over capacity by hundreds of students.

Here is the lowdown:

Catonsville Elementary will move from Frederick Road to the Bloomsbury Community Center on Bloomsbury Avenue.  The new school will accommodate 700 students and will have air conditioning which the old school did not.
The community center building built in 1925 was used as a high school until the mid 50's so a lot of work will be done to make it a modern school.  Recreation programs will be transfered to various locations (including the Benjamin Banneker Park and Museum) until a new community center location is in place - possibly on the site of the current Catonsville ES.
Hillcrest ES will not be affected - that school already has an addition.
A new, 700 seat school will be built on the site of Westowne Elementary which also does not currently have air conditioning.
Westchester Elementary School will get a 200 seat addition.
Relay Elementary will be rebuilt to accommodate 700 students.
