Auburn University Chamber Choir to perform at Jule Collins
At noon on Thursday, Oct. 23, the Auburn University Chamber Choir will perform a free concert at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, Auburn University as a part of the museum’s weekly series, “A Little Lunch Music.”
The Auburn University Chamber Choir is a select group of singers founded in 2008 and conducted by Dr. William Powell, director of Choral Activities. They perform a wide range of choral literature from Renaissance to contemporary periods including folk songs, spiritual and experimental pieces.
Performers include undergraduate students in music performance, music education and many other majors from among the student body at Auburn University. To be admitted into the choir, each singer must audition and practice more than five hours a week.
Recent shows included an invitation to the American Choral Directors Association 2014 Southern Division Conference where they performed “The Cry of Jeremiah” at the Lincoln Center in New York, as well as Johannes Brahms’ “German Requiem” and Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Columbus State University Choirs. They also collaborated with the Emory University Concert Choir, the Tuskegee University Golden Voices Concert Choir and the Auburn University Community Orchestra to perform Verdi’s “Requie.”
