Outer Banks NC - Nevermind the Weather

As you can imagine life on a barrier island is at the mercy of the weather, which is just fine by us. Seasons change, each with their own definite characteristics that make the Outer Banks special. The one constant? There's something to see and do nearly every day of the year, regardless of the weather
The Atlantic Ocean is a wonderful moderator of our Outer Banks (OBX) climate, acting as a cooling factor in the summer months and a warming one in the winter months. That is, if the water temperature of the ocean is 70 degrees in the summer, it acts to cool the atmosphere close to the water that then mixes with the wind and works to drop the overall air temperature. The opposite effect works to our benefit in the winter. We still have four distinct seasons here, but we rarely have winter snows.

Summer months average lows from the mid 70's to highs near 90, depending on the time of the summer. Average temperatures on the Outer Banks climb to 85°, but even on the hottest of summer days ... more
