Flamboyant to Secret Agent, There's Room for Everyone in This Business
Real Estate is an interesting career. I could never promote it as an easy one, however, there are times when this appears so to the layperson. On rare occasions it actually happens too! The old adage that we just sit around and wait for the mailman to drop off checks is partly true. The falsehood though is that these aren't our paychecks, they could be Seller proceeds, rent payments, Buyer deposits, and more with a scattering of commission checks infrequently tossed into the mix. lt's possible that a million dollars could pass through your fingers in a day and none of it reach your pocket or purse. Nonetheless, it is exciting!
It's my belief that the understanding of how our income is derived remains a mystery to a lot of people. Commission rates, cooperating brokerages, agent splits, referral fees and sometimes bonuses factor in to the equation. But, in all likelihood, a principal to any transaction will see the amount paid on the HUD and determine that that dollar amount is what we've  earned. Granted, if you are an independent Broker that amount IS what you earned, less expenses.
You'll have a hard time convincing customers otherwise and it's easier to let it ... more
