Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Blaisdell - Opening Night Oct 9th
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s wildly popular and engaging tale of love, The Magic Flute, opens the Hawaiian Opera Theatre season on October 9, 11, & 13th.

This season’s production of The Magic Flute, created by Metropolitan Opera stage director, Daniel Rigazzi for Arizona Opera, is inspired by the 20th-century painter, Rene Magritte, whose surreal work includes floating portals, doorways, and picture frames, transporting viewers from mundane reality into the fantastical world of dreams.

Opera Diva Diana Damrau perform as the Queen of the Night

Incorporated in the stage production are surrealistic video projections and creative staging, which result in an unusual but decidedly light and bright production.  Three Ladies, servants of the Queen of the Night open the Opera by saving the prince Tamino. The Prince, through his interaction with his saviors, learns that the Queen’s daughter, Pamina, has been kidnapped by an evil sorcerer, Sarastro. Tamino, enthralled  with the lovely Pamina, undertakes a quest to save her, and the Ladies give him a magic flute to keep him safe from danger. Papageno, the bird catcher, accompanies Tamino as they prepare to face Sarastro and his cohorts. Upon confronting the dastardly Sorastro, our heroes learn that things are not always as they seem.
