Smoke CO Fire Inspection Changes Westerly Charlestown RI  New changes that will impact any Charlestown and Westerly RI home sale effective 1/1/2016 on smoke/carbon dioxide certificates are announced.  As you may be aware that a smoke/carbon dioxide certificate must be obtained and supplied to the closing
attorney prior to a house closing occurring.  These changes are being orchestrated by the Dunns Corner Fire District which services these areas to help emergency personnel respond quicker to a home emergency. The changes are as follows, and any questions should be directed to your local Fire Chief:  1. House numbers must be on the front of the house. 2. House number must be at the street level also on the mailbox or property line post. 3. Numbers must be at least 4 inches tall and contrast with the color it is affixed to. 4. House number and street name needs to be posted by the telephone in the interior of the home (where land line is, if applicable) for emergency reference. The fire chief will not pass a smoke/carbon dioxide home inspection if, besides the smoke/carbon detectors being current and working, any of the 4 above items are not additionally met.  Take this to heart and make the necessary changes to ... more
