Family Friendly Mardi Gras in Hammond Louisiana
Family Friendly Mardi Gras in Hammond Louisiana
When: January 29, 2016Hours: 6:30 pmWhere: Downtown Hammond, Louisiana
Who: Everyone and Anyone
Tickets: Free AdmissionWho to Contact: The Krewe of Omega
The Carnival or Mardi Gras season, is a variation of the traditional manner of preparing for the start of the Lent, starts on Epiphany (January 6).  It is a season of parades, balls (some of them masquerade balls), and king cake parties.
While New Orleans is well known for it's Mardi Gras revelry and questionable behavior for plastic trinkets, it's not a family friendly atmosphere in the French Quarter.  On the Northshore, a good family choice is the Krewe of Omega parade.  The Krewe of Omega will roll through downtown Hammond January 29th 2016.  150 riders on 11 professional floats compliment the usual mix of beads and throws, marching bands, social groups and general merrymaking.
The Krewe of Omega is the oldest Mardi Gras parading organization in Tangipahoa Parish.  They have been parading since 1986, hence this year's theme of "Omega Turns Thirty".
It's too late to get on board this year, but you can check out the organization and become a member here.
The parade route starts and ends at Southeastern Louisiana University.  If you are in the area come out and catch some beads!
