I wrote yesterday, on Father’s Day, that we were taking off for about 30 hours to be tourists in America’s Finest City. It wasn’t clear how the time would unfold since we were just going to go where our moods took us.
 
 
 
30 hours later we’re back after having a wonderful time and seeing some sights in San Diego. We did little planning except to make the hotel reservation for last night in the Gaslamp District in San Diego, and to set up a dinner reservations at Osteria Panevino, a few blocks from the hotel.
 
 
 
While planning was not needed for most of the trip – even lunch at Chez Loma (photos below) on Coronado Island was spontaneous – it makes sense to have a hotel in place. It gets pretty crowded at this time of year and who wants to wander around trying to find a place to crash, or that far exceeds your budget?
 
    
 
 
Dinner reservations, too, unless you go really early. I prefer to know where I’m going to eat and when, and not wander around aimlessly trying to find something that appeals to my stomach, or giving to ... more
