I am thankful that we made it safely to Florida!
Yesterday, Walt and I arrived at Norfolk International Airport shortly after noon.  We were scheduled to fly out at 2:25 p.m. and change planes in Baltimore to connect to our flight to Tampa.  Since we had some extra time, we decided to grab a quick bite before going through security.  The restaurant was almost full and the service was painfully slow.  While we were waiting for our food to arrive, I heard the lady at the table behind me say that there had been an "incident" on the runway.  While a plane was landing, the landing gear did not engage.  As a result, all flights were delayed while the runway was being cleaned. 
 
None of the personnel working at the airport seemed to know when or if the normal flight schedule would resume.  By 3:30, we were almost positive that we would miss our connecting flight to Tampa.  I knew that Southwest has a direct flight from Norfolk to Orlando which is only 70 miles from Tampa.  We checked the flight schedule and saw that there was a flight to Orlando that left at 5:35.  We were hopeful that the flights would be up and running by then.
