Edward Rutledge was born in Charleston, South Carolina back in 1749 to John and Sarah.  He studied law in London and in 1772 was admitted to the English bar.  Returning to practice in Charleston however, when the outbreak of the American Revolution he served in South Carolina in the Continental Congress. 
He served as a captain in the artillery for the South Carolina militia and fought in the Battel of Beaufort in 1779.   He died in 1800 at 50 and is buried t Saint Philip’s Episcopal Church Cemetery in Charleston.  So, now comes the usual question can you tell me what he is noted for and will forever be written down in the history books for?
First, he was the 39th Governor of South Carolina serving from 1796-1800, not fulfilling his term due to his death.  However, he is most noted for being the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence at the tender age of 26.  So, all you history buffs did you know this?  Stay tuned in tomorrow for another person in history you may not know
