Why We Love the South Shore of Staten Island
Just as the island of Manhattan has a different neighborhood for every preference and personality, Staten Island offers a unique feel depending on what part of the island you reside in. As agents specializing in everything that is Staten Island real estate, we think it’s necessary to share what we love about the different areas you might want to call home. One of our favorite parts of the island is the South Shore.
The South Shore is the area on Staten Island south and east of the ridge of hills. It’s nestled along the water between Raritan Bay and Fresh Kills. The area’s history goes back to the 19th century when it was prime real estate for the oystering community. When the Verrazano Narrows Bridge was built in the mid-1900s, the area began to grow and people started to develop communities there. The South Shore was significantly urbanized from the 1960s to 1980s.
This favorite area on Staten Island is home to some of the Island’s most sought after neighborhoods including Annadale, Rossville, Tottenville, and Great Kills.
