Is your attention machine grinding?
Our local grocery chain, Tom Thumb, has this promotion with Farberware that sells pots and pans based on the amount of money you spend over time. About $10 spent equals one stamp and to get $50 dollars worth of pots and pans you need about 100 plus stamps I'm sure. The math gets fuzzy but you have to buy groceries anyway, right? Some people don't care about the promotion and don't collect the stamps and some do. The store has the cashiers trained to ask every customer when giving them their grocery receipt, "Are you collecting the stamps for the Farberware cookware?" They then do the simple math and give out the stamps accordingly as needed.
Even if there is a huge miscalculation of stamps on a purchase or an inside stamp ring pimping stamps for cookware, it's going to be hard to really beat the grocery chain on this one.
Tom Thumb is in the attention getting business. They want your attention to shop with them and not their competition. If the prices and quality are close... they're betting you're collecting the stamps.
