High Water at the Sunrise Bike Bridge
Yesterday, after capturing photos of Nimbus Dam scenes, I traveled downstream to the Recreational Area, along the American River Parkway at Sunrise Boulevard. The bike and foot bridge there is experiencing high water levels because of releases from the dam gates at Nimbus, which are all open.
The pictures below, illustrate how rapidly the waters are moving, and drives home the dangers to those who get too close.
In the second photo below, you will notice the bridge side rails have been laid over. Should flows from the dam upstream become more robust, the lowered railings facilitate water and debris more easily passing over the top.
Several fisherman, and homeless with their dogs have required rescue, because of water levels which rose quickly!
News reports this evening, state Sacramento has received aproximately 178% of normal rainfall year-to-date.  Thursday's storm provided 1.84" in 24 hours. That's good news, but concern for the Sierra snow pack, which feeds the rivers in spring and early summer, has received a mere 66% of normal snow fall, in the Lake Tahoe area.
We need snow!

I take pictures for the purpose of remembering fond times.  I do not impose copyright restrictions on this photo, so you may feel free to use, or ... more
