South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade Float
South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade Float

On Tuesday, I made my way over to check out progress for the city of South Pasadena’s float entry in the 128th annual Tournament of Roses Parade.   The float site is in a tent adjacent to the South Pasadena War Memorial Building at 435 Fair Oaks Avenue.   South Pasadena has the oldest self-built float in the parade(and one of only six self-built floats in the parade out of 40 entries this year).

As I have written previously, the all-volunteer effort by South Pasadena(locally known as South Pas and not a part of the city of Pasadena) is just another effort by the city known for its small town appeal.

This year’s float is entitled “Never Give Up” and is a part of the overall parade theme “Echoes of Success”.   As is the custom, South Pasadena’s entry was chosen as part of a city-wide contest.

There wasn’t much activity when I stopped by Tuesday afternoon.  The organization’s Facebook fan page announced earlier that dry decorating (bark, seeds) had started but that this year there is not as much dry work since the float has about 85% or more fresh flowers.
