How to be a safe pedestrian in San Francisco
Living in San Francisco is often exciting and delightful, especially for those who move here from the suburbs. If you live in one of the northeast neighborhoods of The City - think North Beach, Telegraph Hill, Russian Hill, Nob Hill, Pacific Heights, Cow Hollow, the Marina - one can often opt for a car-less lifestyle. Public transportation on major arterial streets is reliable, ZipCar, Citishare, Uber and Lyft offer ride services when needed.
A big part of the car-less lifestyle is we walk more, which for most of us is a healthy, natural choice - we walk to our favorite mom-and-pop stores, walk to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Safeway. Walk to the health club, the post office, the office supply store.
However, that walkable life comes not without risk.
You need to be visible to drivers!
That is especially important in the evening and night hours, and on days like today when the rain is pelting down and the winds are blowing furiously! 
I've written about this before, and I'm writing about it again because we want to enjoy life here in a safe manner. We can't control other people and whether or not they follow safe practices, but we can control our choices.   ... more
