Geese Flying South For The Winter and Las Vegas Panhandlers
I live on the West-side of Las Vegas at The Lakes. In addition to the large lake, there are 8 smaller multi-tiered ponds on the West side of The Lakes where Canadian Snow Geese, at least 10 different breeds of ducks and other waterfowl reside.
In the early spring and late fall, the geese instinctively take off from these ponds and fly around the area in formation as if migrating, only to return to the pond they started their short journey from on the same day.
The waterfowl in this area stay in Las Vegas all year. These migrating birds never migrate. Why is this? It could be the fact the water is warm, they get fed every day and there are no predators or hunters. They have no reason to leave.
In my area and all throughout Las Vegas, especially in the more affluent neighborhoods, there are panhandlers. They have signs saying they need food and work and with the amount of money they take in each day, you would think they could acquire housing, food and eventually jobs, taking them off the streets. Some of them have been working the same corners for years. They just won't leave. Why is that?
