Throwback Thursday Wine Making is an Art
One of the funniest sitcoms I have seen involved Lucille Ball making wine the way it has been done for centuries.  Wash the feet, jump into the vat and just stomp. It was hysterical and whether that batch of wine was ever any good is secondary to the antics that scene presented.
A recent blog post about wines reminded of something that we experienced back in 1995 on a visit to family in Portugal.  It was in September and that is the time of year when the grapes are ready to be harvested.  My cousin was making his wine and was going down to the wine cellar to start the process.  
When my wife got done doing her part, some friends of my cousins came in to help as well.
 
The wine does have to be tested for alcohol content while still fermenting, and a clean sample gets pulled to test.
The raw wine on the skin needs to be cleaned off quickly and the alcohol's acidity neutralized.  After the legs and feet are washed, they need to be swabbed down with alcohol,.
