Throwback Thursday: Alt Karlsbad Haus and Carlsbad Mineral Spa

Mineral springs were discovered in what is now Carlsbad back in 1882 by a sea captain named John Frazier where the Alt Karlsbad Haus sits. It's now a California historic site and monument. You can still buy artesian alkaline mineral water here at a kiosk - bring your own container. A statue of Capt. Frazier stands nearby.
 
The Carlsbad Mineral Springs Spa is located in the Alt Karlsbad Haus on the Coast Road/Carlsbad Boulevard, in Carlsbad Village, where you can have massages, facials, and mineral baths in one of 3 treatment rooms. We haven't done that yet...some day perhaps...but we did get a tour a few years back just for fun. This was our favorite - I believe it was called the Egyptian Cleopatra Room!
 
The mineral water is well knows, sold locally in a number of store, and is used by the local Gaia Gelato store in their delicious gelato, and perhaps by other eateries as well.
