Cannon + Belle ~ "Foodie" Friday 1/27/17
I've got a fun place for you to try this week-end! Steeped in history this local restaurant will charm you and and the menu is ...let's just say...fulfilling our slogan "Let's keep Austin weird!" You'll need to make a trip down town to the Hilton  on East 4th Street but I will safely bet it will be worth the trip to enjoy this unique Texas flair restaurant! Bon Appetit !!

Before telling you about the restaurant, you need to know a little about Belle. In 1842, Governor Sam Houston ordered the removal of the Texas Republic archives. He wanted these secretly relocated from Austin to Washington-on-the-Brazos. Angelina Belle Eberly was a local legend in Austin.  She was afraid that symbols of the national government were being removed from the city.  So, she took it upon herself to fire a 6 pound cannon into the General Land Office Bldg.  It was that cannon fire that alerted the town to the theft and that conflict became known as the Texas Archive War.  
 
Thanks to Belle’s spirit, Austin was preserved as the Texas Capital and keeper of the archives.  Cannon + Belle named their restaurant after this event because they believe in taking risks ... more
