The Sound of the Orchestra...
Our grandson plays base and we have been to the concerts for several years now. What they do in a small county in Florida – Flagler County – is quite impressive. The have Youth Orchestra. Ages from the youngest and to seniors in high school.
Of course, it is all volunteers, who made it happen. A group of devoted musicians, who love working with children. It is fascinating to listen to children, who did not play just a few months before and are now playing. Of course, you need patience to listen to them, but without those clumsy kids there would not be the performance we went to last Saturday.
This is a seasoned orchestra. Of course, they are amateurs, and only get 2 hours of musical training a week, and the results are short of amazing. They played 16 pieces. Brahms, Mozart, Grieg…
It is unlikely many would end up in Juliard’s. But it is undoubtedly the experience that had enlightened so many kids that extended their horizons, and is so important to their cultural upbringing.
A huge thank you to everybody supporting the Youth Orchestra, where hundreds of children make their first and not first steps to the world of music.
