Thanksgiving Fire Safety – Not Just for Turkeys
Can you believe it’s already November? With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I can already smell the turkey and dressing and all the trimmings. In most American households, Thanksgiving is all about the food. Families gather in the kitchen while they prepare all those wonderful traditional dishes. Did you know that there are three times as many house fires on Thanksgiving Day than any other day of the year, and most of them start, you guessed it, in the kitchen? As a property owner and landlord, fire is one of the scariest words we know. So as the holidays approach you may want send a quick email or phone call to your tenants to remind them of these ten fire safety tips as provided by National Fire Prevention Association.
 
1. Don’t leave the kitchen while frying and grilling.
 
2. Use a timer and do kitchen checks when simmering, baking, broiling and roasting.
 
3. If deep frying a turkey, keep the fryer outside, away from walls, fences and other structures. Also, keep the fryer away from moisture to avoid burns from steam and spattering oil.
