Musical Monday: Hail! Hail! Rock 'n Roll

 
The passing of Chuck Berry this weekend should have illicited honoraria and commemoratives into the new week.  But it didn't.  And I ask why?  When Prince and David Bowie passed last year we spent weeks memorializing them.  Don't get me wrong, I love Prince and David Bowie.  I thought both were incredible artists.  But without Chuck Berry there would have been NO Prince and David Bowie.  Not thoroughly recgonizing, and acknowledging Chuck Berry's contribution to modern music is like saying Thomas Edison was just another inventor. Or Albert Einstein was just another scientist.  Chuck Berry INVENTED Rock 'n Roll for Christ's sake!!!!
Every Rock 'n Roller in existence today owes a debt of gratitude to Chuck Berry.  Elvis may have been the King of Rock 'n Roll, but Chuck Berry was the Almighty Creator.  Bands such as the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Beach Boys, and virtually everyone of the British Invasion bands and artists of the early 60's credit Chuck Berry as their inspiration and influence on their music. Some so much so, (ie. The Beach Boys) practically ripped off riffs from Chuck Berry note for note and just changed the lyrics to "create" their own songs.
