Me, Cactus Baby, and Cactus Babies in Arizona!

Have to share our Century Plant, which is an Agave, since this is the first year that we have lived here at our house, where it has had a baby plant growing from the middle of the agave.  It is over 30 feet tall, and looks like an asparagus spear.  It has grown up thin, and straight, with minimal watering (actually watering twice, so not even weekly).  This agave is in our back, side yard, and just to show the height comparison, Roger took a picture of me standing next to it.

A Century Plant takes approximately 15 years to have a baby, and after the babies of the tall, thin original baby flower, the base of the plant will die.

It's taken about 3 weeks for the babies to show up - after the asparagus spear reached it's full height - though the babies are not yet fully opened.  They go down about 10 feet from the top of the asparagus spear, so it's pretty spectacular to view.

This is definitely 'picture worthy', and I hope that you enjoy the beauty of our Sonoran Desert, as much as we love sharing it's beauty with you!
