Welcome to Pottsboro Texas Lake Texoma 
Pottsboro is located just 75 minutes north of downtown Dallas, on beautiful Lake Texoma.  In 1879 the city of Pottsboro was founded by James A. Potts, a pioneer settler who gave the land for a town and a right-of-way so that the MKT Railroad could extend its tracks westward from Denison TEXAS to the area. Because of the MKT railroad extension, the town became a business center and was INC in 1880.

This area has seen many changes, going from a railroad town and agriculture community to “bedroom” community .The most important changes was the United States Army Corp. of Engineers building of the Denison Dam which created beautiful Lake Texoma. The 3 mile long structure holds back 89,000 surface acres of water and provides hydroelectric power for Northern Texas and Southern Oklahoma. Built by the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers the project was started in 1938 and finished in 1944. Since the completion of the Denison Dam, the area has grown into a prime residential and recreation choice.

The goal for the City of Pottsboro is to maintain a small-town feel and to provide quality services. The population of the City of Pottsboro is 2,160.
