I would take a guess that we have all heard the phrase Carpe Diem or "Seize the Day" in our lifetimes. It's a simple philosophy but one that basically says another well-known phrase "live each day like it's your last." It's easy to not think much into those words and not take them to heart, since we know not every single day can be full of adventure (unless your funds & time is unlimited). In time, the idea just fades into the background rather than becoming a way of life.
I think that this quote by Abraham Lincoln helps keep that from happening while setting a more realistic way of looking at how to live life. Even if every day can't be you facing a new frontier, making a year be memorable isn't as hard, especially as we get older.
