When a military family gets orders to Camp Pendleton, CA, there is a quick task list that gets created, with "home" at the top of the list.  When buying a home as a military family, or renting a home, there is an urgency due to the time frame usually for the military servicemember's job to start, and also for the children to start school.  
Here near Camp Pendleton, in the Temecula Valley, you will find that schools start early -- the second week of August -- for elementary school, middle school and high schools.  Temecula schools all start on the same date, and Murrieta schools (just to the north of Temecula) start on their own date, usually different from the Temecula dates.
This year, 2017-2018, Temecula and Murrieta schools start on the same date, August 16, 2017.
