Confidence in One Area Can Carry Over to Another Area
 
A few years back, I worked with a guy who had a passion for football.  He played on his high school football team as a defensive cornerback.  He was a good athlete, which he displayed on our company softball team.  Although, he had never played softball, or baseball, he quickly took his attributes of strength and speed and developed into a good member of the team.
 
At our company, he worked as a quality control inspector, but he did have ambitions to go further, however, in spite of the fact that he did an adequate job, he was always tentative about his abilities and about whether or not he was doing things properly.
 
He did not go to college, so he never had the chance to test his football skills on the next level above high school, although he would liked to have had the opportunity.  Short of playing in college, or even possibly in the pros, he decided to try out for a semi-professional football team.  A colleague questioned this move.  Why would you want to risk getting hurt for something that was not going to be in your professional future.
