Advice to New Agents…Real Estate is a Life Style, Not a Job
 
BACKGROUND
 
It’s been ten years since I received my real estate license so writing this post really brought back the memories. Prior to real estate I was a loan officer then a mortgage broker so I was experienced in marketing, networking and generating my own business.
 
I knew from experience that in the mortgage business (and in real estate) as a self-employed, independent contractor you wake up basically unemployed every day so you have to market yourself and your skills consistently. Since I had been doing that, I thought the transition to real estate would be easy…and it was, in some ways but not so much in others.
 
 
What do you wish you had known the very first year you were in the business that cost you lost business or income?
 
Don’t confuse being busy with being productive
 
While I knew the housing crisis was inevitable, I underestimated the nature and extent of it so was not prepared when the bubble burst.
