San Diego’s Last Master-Planned Community
According to a consulting report by John Burns Real Estate, Otay Ranch in San Diego County has broken sale records for master-plan community in the nation with 563 homes sold in 2017, up from 159 homes sold the previous year. Wallis Ranch outside of San Francisco is the only other community to see a faster sales ratio.
 
In Otay Ranch, more than 10,000 homes have been built with almost 18,000 more to come. However, it should be noted that San Diego is running out of land and voters are not too fond of new housing projects. This can be seen in the rejected plans to build Lilac Hills Ranch which would have included more than 1,700 homes in Valley Center.
 
Due to the lack of land zoned for housing and the political will to build in undeveloped areas, it can be said that San Diego will probably never get another community built as big as Otay Ranch.
