Monday Musing - Spring Weather and Lilacs

Lilac needs a good freeze to bloom well. I am always so happy to see our lilac bloom this time of year. Though our weather gets cold and temps dip below freezing, sometimes for hours, daytime temperatures rarely ever have stayed below 32º.  In the last 8 years, only 2 days have been below 32º for a high. Once the sun comes up the temperature rises. This is the main reason snow does not stay on the ground. 
 
Weather Update for Sedona
Overall we ended winter 2018 with cooler weather than the previous year. The mean temp for the previous two months was at least four degrees cooler than 2017 each month. Precipitation in 2017 for the first quarter was at 7.11 inches and in 2018 it was only 4.41 inches. Days with sunshine are at 74 for the quarter versus 67 for last year’s first quarter. 
The weather station is located at the end of Soldiers Pass where the average tempertures are about 3º cooler due to slight elevation increases at the end of the pass.
